A
n Evening at Sunset Ranch

showcasing music, nature and wildlife

   Mark Owens                                                                                   Show #1

Mark Owens started playing guitar after finding one under his Christmas tree when he was 12 years old. A California native, Mark grew up in the San Fernando Valley, where he was inspired to play by listening to his father, as well as Chet Atkins, Muddy Waters, and BB King. After playing and singing surf music in several local bands, Mark started playing at clubs in the Pasadena and Glendale area. Upon moving to Hawaii in 1984, Mark was influenced by several prominent Hawaiian slack-key guitarists and began experimenting with alternate tuning.
It was then he began to concentrate on his instrumental playing and no longer sang during his performances.

Moving back to California in 1995, Mark has since played with David Crosby,
Jim Messina and Jackson Browne. Mark's latest CD "Places in a Dream" contains all original compositions, and features his brilliant exploration of alternate tuning techniques and the
use of a guitar synthesizer.

"Performing at the Sunset Ranch took me back to years long gone by, when nature was untouched as far as the eye could see." ....Mark Owens

Coming Soon to the Sunset Ranch

Martin Paris                                                                                                                  Show #6

Martin Paris is a talented and well rounded acoustic guitar player who's music is most inspiring. Musically his songs range from melodic to up tempo as he shows an excellent feel for song arrangements. With his debut CD, "Influenced," fans have called his music catchy, beautiful and though provoking.

Martin learned his craft from his late father, Ed Paris, who taught him at age twelve. "Some of my early musical influences, besides my father, include James Taylor, the Doobie Brothers, and the general sound of acoustic guitar in modern rock. As I got older my experimentation with alternate tunings led me to some of the great finger style guitarists of our generation such as Laurence Juber and Peppino D'Agostino."

Martin grew up on the Central Coast of California where he resides with his wife and four children. Martin's music has been featured on AEF's environmental television show "R-Environment" and has been very popular with the viewers. With Martin's busy schedule we have had a hard time scheduling him for a visit at Sunset Ranch. We have finally found the time and look forward to showcase this talented songwriter performer.

"Many times songs will work themselves out on the guitar as I feel an emotion from events in my Life. Music is a gift from God I love to share." .... Martin Paris
